According to a study of the University of California at San Diego conducted over a thousand volunteers by monitoring the weight, calorie intake and body mass index, who eats chocolate continuously is generally thinner than those who do so occasionally. Despite its high calorie content, the chocolate ingredients promote weight loss. Cocoa for instance is rich in epicatechin, which burns calories and even improves your body muscle mass.
Chocolate also helps diabetics. It’s been shown that the consumption of flavanols present in cocoa, may be beneficial for people with type 2 diabetes. And, last but not least, chocolate is an antidepressant.
Chocolate can be traced to the Mokaya and other pre-Olmec people, and the Aztecs believed that cacao seeds were the gift of Quetzalcoatl, the God of wisdom (they valued the seeds so much value they were used as a form of currency). And, in fact, considering all the positive effect on health, it must really a gift of the gods!
